HistoryMultimedia has developed through organic growth and has been party to a number of mergers and acquisitions that have taken place during the last 15 years. In 1991, two unrelated limited liability companies were formed in Kalisz and Gdynia and commenced cable television activities under the business names of Multimedia Polska S.A. and Szel-Sat Sp. z o.o. (‘‘Szel-Sat’’), respectively. They were founded by Polish entrepreneurs, among them Mr. Andrzej Rogowski, the current President of Multimedia Polska. Multimedia and Szel-Sat (both operating as groups of companies) expanded rapidly while increasing their customer bases. Emerging Ventures Limited acquired a stake in Multimedia in 1999 and in Szel-Sat in 2001. The inclusion of both group of companies within the EVL group resulted in the change by Szel-Sat of its business name to Multimedia Polska and an intensive process of internal mergers and consolidations within both Multimedia and the former Szel-Sat group of companies. In 2001-2003, EVL acquired control over several Polish telecoms through its subsidiaries. In 2003, EVL merged the acquired operators under the trade name of TeleNet. In 2003, Multimedia Polska continued to expand its network and customer base following the acquisition of cable television assets from TPSA. The process of integration of TeleNet Group with the cable television and internet operations of Multimedia Polska began in early 2004. These efforts led to the launch of triple play in 2004. In March 2005, Multimedia Polska hired most of TeleNet's employees. In December 2005, the merger of Multimedia and the TeleNet Group was completed and Multimedia began providing fixed-line telephony services over PSTN networks on a much larger scale; also TeleNet’s telephone and internet subscribers were added to Multimedia’s customer base. On 13 November 2006, the Company’s shares were first listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The offering was the largest private offering in the history of the WSE and the largest offering in 2006 totalling PLN 804m. In Q4 2009, we introduced a new digital functionality - PVR which allows users to record, rewind and replay programmes. We also launched mobile internet (mobilNET) and mobile voice services (mobilFON) to our customers. |
