Multimedia Polska – Over One Million RGUs Sold

Multimedia Polska has already reached over one million revenue generating units (RGUs) of the cable TV, Internet and voice services. The millionth RGU was purchased in Tarnów where Multimedia Polska is developing a new cable TV network. The main drivers of the company’s high sales are the bundled services and state-of-the-art products such as digital cable TV, Video on Demand and VoIP telephony.

In the first three months of 2008, Multimedia Polska sold nearly 39 thousand RGUs. Thus, as at the end of March, the company had more than one million RGUs – over 140 thousand more than a year before.
“This large increase in sales has been driven mainly by the growing popularity of bundled services and the launch of Video on Demand and VoIP telephony as part of our offering,” says Andrzej Rogowski, President of the Management Board of Multimedia Polska.

In Q1 2008, the company posted higher RGU sales in all segments, i.e. cable TV (digital and analogue), broadband Internet and fixed-line telephony (digital VoIP technology and traditional PSTN telephony). Similarly to the previous quarters, the fastest growing group of subscribers are those using the Internet. As at the end of Q1 2008, the company had nearly 230 thousand Internet users – up by nearly 40% year on year.
“For many quarters now, our growth in this segment has been a two-digit figure and I hope it will stay so in the quarters to come. We expect that Internet’s share in our revenue structure will be growing,” states Mr Rogowski.

The sales of digital cable TV (DTV) has been on the rise. In Q1 2008, Multimedia Polska acquired 15.6 thousand new DTV subscribers, against 10.6 thousand in Q4 2007. As at the end of March 2008, the company had over 35 thousand DTV users.
As at the end of Q1 2008, Multimedia Polska had a total of 591.6 thousand TV RGUs (digital cable TV, analogue TV and the Premium programmes), which represents an 11% increase year on year. “This demonstrates the effectiveness of our strategy aimed at increasing ARPU through constant expansion of the packages and promotion of bundled services,” says Mr Rogowski.

The number of subscribers who used at least two services (Double Play) in Q1 2008 was 226.6 thousand, representing an over 30% increase year on year. The number of Triple Play subscribers stood at 51.3 thousand – nearly 40% more than in Q1 2007. The number of services per subscriber rose from 1.43 in Q1 2007 and 1.52 in Q4 2007 to 1.57 in Q1 2008 – a new record high again. “We still see a lot of room for growth here. Our customers will use increasingly more packages offered by Multimedia Polska because what they get is a custom-made, ever more attractive offering at an attractive price,” explains Mr Rogowski.

In addition, Multimedia Polska reported an increased number of subscribers using the fixed-line telephony. As at the end of Q1 2008, the company had over 181 thousand fixed-line RGUs, up by 10% year on year. The main reason for this increase was the growing popularity of VoIP telephony (Voice over Internet Protocol). In the first months of 2008, the company acquired nearly 7 thousand VoIP RGUs. As much as 40% of all telephony users of Multimedia Polska use this technology.

As at the end of March 2008, Multimedia Polska had a total of nearly 638 thousand subscribers. As at the end of March 2007, the number was slightly over 600 thousand.
